The Big Spaghetti

We’re taking pasta back to its street-food origins in a big stand-up event that combines the bustle of hawker markets with the family-friendly and community ethos of Italian street fairs in a celebration of every strand of spaghetti and every forkful of cacio e pepe. Throw in some live music and a healthy splash of wine for good measure and you’ve got a real mambo Italiano on your hands.
On stage, special guests Matt Preston and Sam Pang will present the World’s Longest Cooking Demo. Thrill to minute by minute chopping, sautéing, stirring, simmering, simmering and more simmering as they make their Bolognese sauce in real time before your very eyes. A few years ago Sam fell in love with Matt’s Bolognese sauce, and is looking forward to assisting the master and learning its secrets. “Here’s one we definitely didn’t make earlier,” says Matt.
Other guest presenters hitting the Asko stage to share their pasta making techniques, tricks and secrets are Karen Martini, Andreas Papadakis (Tipo 00 and Osteria Ilaria), Pasi Petanen (Café Paci), Caterina Borsato and Marcello Mariani (Caterina’s), and Francesco Rota (Trattoria Emilia).

The Big Spaghetti takes place in Shed X and Queen Street at Queen Victoria Market on the second Saturday of the Festival. Entry is free, with food and drinks available to purchase from bars and pop-up stalls from 11am to 8pm (or until sold out). The event is cashless; please bring along your credit/debit card.
